if your gear is up to it, for crystals and clusters, endgame ephemeral nodes. current endgame nodes give you sands etc to sell as well, but if you don't care about that, previous expac ones will work just fine.
otherwise, and for shards, yeah retainers. 120 crystals every 40 minutes is decent
