Thank you.
Obviously I know that that is true in some circs. But this isn't one of them: the usefulness of quantum tunnelling has been known for ages.

The Nobel Prize in Physics just got awarded for work in...the 1980s!!!
So speedyπ€£
It's for "the discovery of macroscopic quantum mechanical tunnelling and energy quantisation in an electric circuit" - which sounds like stuff we studied in undergrad in the 1990s already!
Those prizes are so weird.
I never understand the term 'crowd in'.
Does it just mean 'attract'?
OMG. it was actually...a randomised trial.

Nobel Week is once again upon us! How many women and how many scientists from the Global South will be awarded Prizes this year? Remember that this is typically a set of Prizes dominated by white men from North America (some Europe, some Asia). The first announcement was today: Medicine. 𧡠1/

Pretty funny that the church founded by Henry VIII - not exactly top women's rights advocate - is ?the first major religious institution globally? to be headed by a woman.
Henry's reign was completely defined by reaction to the notion that women can't run things. (His daughter ruled for 45 yrs π€£.)
Sarah Mul lally's appt as Archbishop of Canterbury is kinda two fingers to her predecessor as Bishop of London Richard Chartres who wouldn't ordain women. π€¦π½ββοΈ

Theologians! What is this? "Hereford Cathedral is as holy as a cathedral can be"?
Isn't holiness binary? - you are or you aren't? If it's (what?) a Likert scale(?!), who determines anybody's score?

MSF strongly condemns the killing of Omar Hayek by Israeli forces this morning in #Gaza. Our thoughts are with his family and colleagues.
Omar is our fourteenth colleague to be killed in Gaza since the war started. We call yet again for an end to the genocide.

02.10.2025 09:57 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0Why does a university have to employ somebody to teach graduate students how to write properly?
Answer: because academia (consistently & bizarrely) teaches & rewards people for writing badly. All that use of the passive, for example.
Employers SO OFTEN have to train all of that out of new hires.
Do you know where he is? I thought that that tomb in the Abbey was thought to be empty...
