I think this is the most recurring ‘feeling’ throughout the great works of OzLit that makes our canon kinda unique: we are consistently dry and off-putting bores, in a way that is uniquely Australian.

I think the most consistent through line in Australian literature since day dot is that it is dull/boring (in form, style, and content), and I don’t necessarily think that’s a bad thing.
