I've not thought a lot about that lol, usually I think I start with the character and later draw a background that's subjected to how I drew said character.

Nah, his mind is just getting sucked into a spiral drawn on a sheet of paper, nothing too out of the ordinary.

Also have fun. Don't be swayed by bad inner voices while you're drawing, I mention this bc a lot of people fear backgrounds but I think drawing them benefits a lot from a fun approach, at least for me because I like drawing a mess of things in them.

I think a good practice is to try to do quick sketches of interiors and simplify stuff in them to simple forms, that'll help you get loose and develop a good sense of space. I've also analyzed Kim Jung Gi's art and how handled depth, shading, etc. He was so cracked 😩

Lately I've been a little obsessed with Voir Dire by Die Spitz, Molly by Ecca Vandal andd Push by Fog Lake has been a long time favorite c: love that song's lyrics.

I guess that's one way in which I could improve this piece, the area around his eyes is pretty dark and you can't make out the eyebrows and stuff, it's a little ominous 😭

I thought about that while doing this, maybe I should've done a more ergonomic design for that hat, but for me it implies a world in which anthros and other creatures co-exist in a civilized manner, so you sometimes have this hybrid fashion in which accesories are forcibly adjusted to other species
