327 people will be shot today. Why aren't we discussing gun control? Given that it's impossible to keep up with daily shootings and deaths, where is the conversation about gun control?

Ten years ago, on Oct. 1, 2015, a shooting at Umpqua Community College in Oregon killed a professor and 8 students & wounded even more. The incident only took minutes, but its trauma will last a lifetime.

Students and teachers shouldn't have to hide under desks to stay alive. We deserve better.

As ghost guns decrease in Baltimore, so does juvenile gun violence A sharp drop in ghost guns, aided by increased regulations and legal settlements, has contributed to a significant decline in Baltimore’s teen shootings.

Thanks to Brady supported legislation and litigation, ghost gun recoveries in Baltimore have declined nearly 40% since 2022.

But even more important, is the life-saving impact that the city has seen as a result: The number of youth shooting victims fell 55% during that same time period.

In America, where there are more guns than people, too often a weekend night out turns into tragedy.

We now know at least four people were killed and eight others were injured in the shooting and fire at a church in Grand Blanc Township, Michigan.

These tragedies are not inevitable. We deserve action. We deserve safety.

We think of the loved ones who will never come home again and the families and friends who don’t just mourn their loss, but are faced with the trauma of gun violence. We refuse to accept this as normal.

Today, Sept. 25, is the National Day of Remembrance, a day to honor victims, support survivors, and recognize the groups working to heal communities.

Gun violence has taken a devastating toll on LGBTQ+ communities. Nearly two-thirds of U.S. firearm deaths are suicides, and one-third of LGBTQ youth report contemplating suicide.

Two months ago, the Trump administration eliminated the specialized suicide crisis lifeline for LGBTQ+ youth. Before it was shut down, a young person could dial 988 and press “3” to reach specialized counselors.

Last week, @baldwin.senate.gov and Sen. Lisa Murkowski
introduced the bipartisan 988 LGBTQ+ Youth Access Act to restore this life-saving service for particular vulnerable young people.

When HB 128 passed in August, professors warned open carry would make campuses less safe.

Utah lawmakers ignored them, instead siding with the gun lobby.

Now Utah students are living with the consequences.

It is not enough to dismiss threats as “not credible” or to offer condolences after shootings.

America must take direct action to ensure prevention, protection, and lasting solutions. Student deserve to pursue an education defined by opportunity and possibility, not fear, violence, or hate.

Even when threats prove to be hoaxes, the damage is real. The psychological toll, the disruption to education, and the climate of fear are unacceptable. Gun violence continues to shatter families and communities, leaving survivors and young people burdened with trauma they shouldn't have to carry.

These incidents, though different in form, reflect a deeply troubling reality: students across America are being denied the basic right to safety in spaces designed for growth, learning, and community.

Earlier this week, Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs) faced a wave of threats that disrupted learning and instilled fear, while separate shootings in Colorado and Utah tragically turned schools into crime scenes. 👇
