I think it’s just that planners used to focus on the public realm. Post-urban renewal (when that generation’s planners facilitated the destruction of cities so cars could run through them), planners are focused on public engagement, largely for individual projects on private space.

Why we need more day cares in Chapel Hill, and what we can do about it. - Triangle Blog Blog A group civics blog covering town council, education, transportation, and recreation in Chapel Hill and Carrboro, NC.

For the first time in decades, Chapel Hill and #Carrboro are moving toward real zoning reform 🏘️

Their councils are likely to legalize small infill homes, eliminate housing barriers, and break from the old anti-growth playbook 🌱

UNC history professor: My school is withdrawing from the world The proposed closures at UNC threaten programs that brought $28M in external funds, undermining Carolina's global mission and faculty and student opportunities.

Last year, I co-organized a conference titled Asian Cinemas Encounter the Cold War with support from the Carolina Asia Center, one of the six centers now slated for elimination. These centers make cross-disciplinary, international collaboration possible.
