A dynamic rhizosphere interplay between tree roots and soil bacteria under drought stress Increased root exudation rate under combined drought and bacterial inoculation and bacterial growth stimulation by specific exudation metabolites support the idea of root recruitment of beneficial bacteria, especially under water stress.

🌱 First planting day in the Alptekin Lab!
Ohio University undergraduates Maddy Lucas and Liz Moran planted their first seeds and transferred them to the growth chamber on February 9. An exciting start to our research journey!

Somehow, I missed this article before, even though it is from 2016. And it makes complete sense. Highly recommended for abiotic stress researchers.

The first piece of advice is especially resonating with me right now as a new PI: Hire the right people
That is what I am working on, and it is hard!

I was a β€˜go, go, go’ academic. A fellowship abroad transformed my approach β€œI came back with a recalibrated sense of how I want to live and work,” this professor writes

A great read:
"Productivity, I’ve come to see, is not measured only by research papers and grants. It is also sustained by presence, rest, and the relationships that give meaning to the work."

I agree. At the same time, I wonder how this technology would work in polyploid organisms, like wheat. It is incredible how fast the genome editing technology is moving forward and maybe we will soon see these kind of experiments performed in crops.
