π± First planting day in the Alptekin Lab!
Ohio University undergraduates Maddy Lucas and Liz Moran planted their first seeds and transferred them to the growth chamber on February 9. An exciting start to our research journey!
Somehow, I missed this article before, even though it is from 2016. And it makes complete sense. Highly recommended for abiotic stress researchers.

The first piece of advice is especially resonating with me right now as a new PI: Hire the right people
That is what I am working on, and it is hard!
A great read:
"Productivity, Iβve come to see, is not measured only by research papers and grants. It is also sustained by presence, rest, and the relationships that give meaning to the work."

Today was my first day at Ohio University as an assistant professor. It has been a long journey, and finally, I am hereπ«
I cannot express how grateful I am to all my mentors, colleagues, friends, and family for supporting me on this journey. I could not do this without you. So, thank you!

I won the FIRST place in the flash talk competition at #GLPSC2025 π
I must admit, it was unexpected because this was my first flash talk and let me tell you; explaining what you do in 3 minutes is not easy!
Thanks to organizers of #GLPSC2025 for the opportunity to share my work on π± and space π°οΈ
I agree. At the same time, I wonder how this technology would work in polyploid organisms, like wheat. It is incredible how fast the genome editing technology is moving forward and maybe we will soon see these kind of experiments performed in crops.

Deleting a 600kb region in a genome? Not that crazy of an idea anymore! Papikian et al show that plants have an incredible ability to compensate for large genomic deletions.

Such a timely and important work! π
It was an incredible experience to be a part of the ROOT&SHOOT Inclusive Conference Committee (rootandshoot.org). I learned a lot in our discussions. It is always great to connect with like-minded people for an important goal: inclusive scientific environment πΈ
It is great to be part of this group. Thank you @plantphys.bsky.social for the opportunity to be an AFE
