Really wanted Chapman back on the Pirates, which is a sentence me of just a few years ago would shutter at me saying. He was very likable with the Pirates though and was a very good reliever, their most dependable one in fact.

I do think Jones hit a rookie wall midway through last season and that’s why he was given that break then didn’t get his footing back as well after. I don’t think it diminishes him completely though. He’s still an exciting young pitcher. Not as good as Skenes obviously. Nobody is saying that.

They shouldn’t be trying to unload him at a low point in his value. The time to move him is not now. I think they have to keep him and hope he rebounds.

The thing that makes Sasaki more viable for the Pirates is that due to the rules, he is in the international signing period class of players where every team only has so much to spend in their bonus pool so the playing field evens out a lot in that case.

The Pirates could make a compelling case to Roki Sasaki if they are going to be in on that (questionable at best I know). Their starting pitching development over the last few years has shown results you can’t argue much with. Plus Paul Skenes, man. Get to be in a rotation with that guy.

Someone has to run the calculations on just how much money it would cost to get all the things on that offer list. It’s probably a pretty good bit.
