Alright, next on my list of insanely talented horror authors who happen to be women is @rachelharrison.bsky.social . Not only is she one of the best in her field, she is an incredibly kind human being. Someone who I feel is always looking out for others and making sure that everyone is ok.

Okay, bear with me on this one. It's the cover for A WOMAN UNBECOMING, edited by Rachel A. Brune and Carol Gyzander. It's very neony in color. If you're old enough, if you remember those shirts that changed color when you touched it, that's the vibe here. There's a woman looking straight ahead with a bright yellowish face. Her hands are wrapped around a pillow. It's like she might be watching TV or something. Above her, many blue hands are reaching out of a pink/red/orange background. It's quite colorful.
Cover for Nick Roberts' IT HAUNTS THE MIND AND OTHER STORIES. It's bathed in red/burgandy and a young woman stares at you. She appears to be not wearing a shirt (calm down, it's about from the shoulders up) and there's a wicked upsided down cross carved into her face, starting at the top of her forehead down to the tip of her nose, with the horizontal part going across the eyes.
Cover for Nick Medina's INDIAN BURIAL GROUND. It's orangish/red and what is that? Cream? Let's go with cream colored. The orange takes up most of the background, with a lizard in cream color, deocrated with all kinds of designs like circles and triangles.
Cover for Rachel Harrison's BLACK SHEEP. It's a pinkish cover, with a creepy ass black sheep with red eyes and goddamn devil horns. Goddamn evil sheep.

My publisher is giving away 20 finished hardcover copies of my upcoming novel, WRETCH! πͺ²π―οΈπ€ Please help spread the word if you can! This book is queer and sad and a little gross. I hope you love it!
www.goodreads.com/book/show/23...
Itβs hard to talk about author mental health, but Iβm watching it become an issue in this social media age, and itβs shitty and sad, and getting kind of scary behind the scenes. Authors do have to learn how to accept criticism, but thereβs criticism and then thereβs cruelty. Itβs a bummer!
08.02.2026 21:46 β π 4 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0The only way I can describe it is it felt excessively cruel, and seemed to me to take joy in ripping the book / the author apart. Itβs totally valid to not like / harshly critique a book, itβs not about protecting the authorβs feelings but respecting their humanity, thatβs the line I think
08.02.2026 20:39 β π 2 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0Itβs hard. No one should ever feel pressured to censor themselves but also, letβs please not lose sight of common decency. Thereβs enough hurt in the world. There can be (and absolutely should be) honesty without excessive cruelty in these spaces.
08.02.2026 14:58 β π 26 π 1 π¬ 1 π 0None of us are handles. Weβre human beings. I just hope we can think about the things we say and be more considerate. If you want to talk shit, go scorched earth, I get it, but maybe save it for the group chat? Idk man.
08.02.2026 14:56 β π 16 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0Reviewing is a skill! Howeverβ¦Thereβs a difference between critique and using critique as an excuse for excessive cruelty. And I get it. We can say whatever the f*ck we want, thatβs our right. but words have consequences. The things we say online have real world consequences.
08.02.2026 14:55 β π 27 π 8 π¬ 1 π 1Authors understand when we put our work out there that itβs subject to criticism, and thatβs just part of it. I think the majority of us truly respect criticism, critical thought and analysis, personal opinion, everyone gets to engage with and respond to art in their own way and thatβs beautiful!
08.02.2026 14:54 β π 14 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0Yesterday I was scrolling and randomly came across a review for a book I really want to read, by an author I donβt know but seems cool, and so I read the review and it broke my f*cking heart and I havenβt been able to stop thinking about it.
