A very exciting place in the middle of nowhere

Don’t get too jealous, our truck got stuck in the desert yesterday for over 6 hours and my mate got stung by a scorpion. It’s not all glamour!

The safety video on Ethiopian airlines is something truly special. It is so early 1980s it’s unreal and I am obsessed with. Luckily I’m on about 8 different flights with them over the next month so I’ll get to enjoy its weirdness again and again and again!

I'm upgrading a bunch of OJS and OMP instances now I'm working as part of @edinburghdiamond.bsky.social and SCURL Open Hosting. Upgrading these applications is fiddly as heck so I've written scripts to make my life easier and maybe anyone else who regularly works on OJS/OMP.

Sheffield have been doing these reviews since at least 2018. They're always awful, done without any notion that there are human beings behind job titles.

I have returned from seeing wild elephants to discover the monkeys have done a dirty protest all over my balcony.

I failed to see a sign in time. This resulted in a monkey deciding he wanted to move in, me having to be very firm (I genuinely pointed at him and said ‘no you don’t, Sonny Jim’) and him then retreating to the balcony and sulking. I now think I can add Monkey Wrangling to my CV.

I am in Sri Lanka and have bumped into a chum from a previous holiday. It’s a small world

They made me wear a dress! And shoes that pinched! Unacceptable behaviour from my mother, even if it was for my aunt’s wedding. I remember clearly wanting to wear my navy jumper with an appliquéd hippo on it. Plus the hippo was pink, so that’s practically the same as the stupid dress.

I am starting an agenda of things I wish to discuss with you. And many of those things are not actual to discuss but rather rants about them. And yes, 2019 was the last time we were together which is quite frankly unacceptable. It is going to be the mother of all catch ups for sure

2003, I was pregnant. Pregnant and puking. Let's make sure neither of these things occur this weekend (you are in charge of making sure I don't take an entirely unsuitable chap home with me, ok?). And cause I'm not as cool as you I was mostly listening to Elbow, Muse and Super Furry Animals.

When Kevin and I get together it doesn't always end messily, but if past is prologue then I think we all know what's coming!

Last day of work! And not just for Christmas, but for an indeterminate amount of time cause I’m walking away from Sheffield Uni to have adventures and do Very Exciting Things*

*some travelling, some house renovations and at some point get an actual job again.
