This gives me hope that even if all those MPs - with dollars in their eyes from what they can personally gain from US Big Tech’s ravaging of human creativity - vote for a data mining exception to copyright, the Lords ain’t having it - and the boom will be over by the time any dust settles?

While it's a long, long way from being perfect, the Lords have sent back some truly appalling Bills in recent years.

Very interesting line up of speakers and topics. I'd definitely be attending if I was anywhere near London!

@livingmaps.bsky.social, this might also be of interest to the counter-mapping community.

This attitude and behaviour doesn't surprise me but I expected better from the Guardian. I'm astounded at the lack of critical reporting here.

These are the people most in need of loans. We have such a pathological position on education and who 'deserves' in this country. It's hurting us now, and it's really going to sting in the long run.

people in the environment can be good for the environment

I was trying to explain this a few weeks ago to someone, but British culture is so estranged and alienated from its own industrial countryside, and Victorian/colonial gamekeeper lenses of conservation, all soaked in Malthusian fear

I'm glad to see that new partners are being sought for the Sutherland spaceport. Some really good community engagement and participation work had been done around the development and local people were genuinely upset when the project was abandoned.

Power to the People How Labour can restore civic life and counter the "Britain is broken" narrative

I worked closely with Big Local in Tang Hall, York and the key was consistency. The annual investment in the neighbourhood was relatively small but came with the security that it would be repeated the following year.

This is a really cool one bringing researchers, libraries, authors and gaming clubs to look at how representations of women in fantasy fiction and gaming may be written to reduce real-life prejudice

University of Sussex
Project Title:
'Global Imaginaries: Farming Futures'
Project Summary:
Approximately 70% of the UK's land is used for agriculture; pressure on land is intensifying, yet debates on the future of farming remain polarised. This project empowers young people to imagine a range of futures for farming through storytelling and games grounded in scientific expertise and ethnographic research with farmers and food systems stakeholders, focused on the UK and enriched with perspectives from Kenya and Uganda. Farming Futures creates space for young people to explore diverse perspectives spanning locations and generations, learning about controversies while imagining hopeful futures. They decide whether to honour, adapt, or challenge farming practices before watching their choices ripple through ecological, economic, and social systems to engage with farming as a site of creativity, care, and activism.

This is the map that I'm currently musing over. I'm fascinated by how the cardinal points are set against the mapped features rather than the other way around.

North point? Too fussy?
