Spent some time with the King last night. Ignore the empty seats—Baz Luhrmann’s concert doc is superb. No talking heads. No narration. Just the immense pull of the man's talent and stardom which seemingly took from him with the same intensity as it drew audiences to adore him.

But, if I'm being super-dorky, I would really like to see an ongoing TOS comic book series adapting the best of the 80s/90s Pocket books in the same way that Roy Thomas adapted the original REH Conan stories into comic form back in the 1970s.

Maybe a mini where a small crew is stranded on a pre-warp planet and has to learn to fit in and make new lives in an alien society but can't escape the lure of hatching a desperate escape plan. Could use flashbacks to slowly reveal who they were aboard their ship pre-crash.

Did you read Spade & Archer, the prequel novel by Joe Gores? If so, how does this compare? I'm guessing a much more robust plot.

This and last week's NCBD hauls. My shop's DC books arrived late so today's pickups are all from the school of "hey, why not?"

Finally reading this week's comics. Mainline Batman continues to impress. ASM takes the usual route to bring the Peter-in-space, Norman-as-Spidey stories to an end... multiple artists to accommodate what I'm guessing were many last minute script changes. Disappointing finish.

I've designed some comics and trade paperback stuff, but always wanted to tackle something in the mass market size. Such a unique format!

My mailbox has been ghosting me since the storm. But I'm a faithful and persistent guy, so I kept showing up until finally... today.... Boom! Grateful to @sdunbier and @LukasKendall that these big, beautiful monsters exist and can now join their likeminded brethren on my shelves.

I honestly thought everyone agreed Rick Baker's Grinch designs were the best thing in the movie!

3/ I'm old to remember when these company crossovers felt like distinctly different takes assembled from uniquely different teams.

2/ I wish I'd picked up DC's version of the Batman/Deadpool crossover but, at a glance, it looked so much like the Marvel version I just assumed it was a variant or 2nd printing...

1/ Light week at the comic shop. Happy to see JRJR back after a brief ASM hiatus. Fun new villain too -- he looks a bit like Hush, but the bandages make more sense once you learn his powers.

The most controversial creative choice in this week's #NCBD pile...is the ABSOLUTEly bizarre color scheme for a Rocketfellers Halloween cover which made me think... "But, Debbie...pastels?"

That Treasury really livened up my #NCBD haul. While there are two promising new titles (The Phantom and Invisible Man), I've fallen way behind in reading the others...except USM, which is unfortunately a mind-numbingly dull series I'm about to drop.

I snagged this absolute classic at my local comic shop on Wednesday. Looking sharp at almost 50 years old. The cover is a bit loose, so I'll have to read this bad boy carefully.

And...if someone can explain how in the Hoary Hosts of Hoggoth Doctor Strange could have a 450th milestone issue, I'm very curious. Ah, nvm - they're counting 109 issues of Strange Tales from before he was created.

Last week saw DWJ's final ish of Transformers. I'm about 10 issues behind reading that, so I may dip out after this, despite Kirkman and Mora taking over.
