Ahead of welcoming international PhD students next week, I counted the number of nationalities of PhD students I've graduated: UK, Iranian, Chinese, US, Malaysian, Russian, Italian, German, Pakistani, Spanish, Tunisian, Thai, Portuguese, Singaporean, Irish. A privilege to have learnt from them all!

In the Global AI Race, China Is Gaining on the U.S. Podcast Episode Β· WSJ Tech News Briefing Β· 03/07/2025 Β· 14m

In an otherwise interesting episode of @wsj.com tech news briefing yesterday, there was statement that open weights for LLMs implies absence of bias in LLM responses. This is conflating two very different things.

You're also assuming statistical independence as well as normality, but under that additional assumption OK.

I'm not sure I understand the distinction between 'evidence-based' and 'social-based' constructs - doesn't seem to be a meaningful dichotomy to me?

I think neurotypes (though changeable and socially constructed) are useful because of "clustering" in the high-dim space corresponding brain/mind/body. Simply put: there are commonalities that can be useful. Also: recommend reading @dr-nicky.bsky.social 's and @drrobertchapman.bsky.social 's books.
