I read War and Peace as an audiobook when walking or cooking and it didn't feel long. The other longest audiobook I listened to was George R.R. Martin's first Game of Thrones volume (never watched the TV series.) For ebooks that are DRM-free, instead of audiobooks,my phone reads them aloud to me.

After sauteing the onion, celery in olive oil and adding the onion and vegetable broths the tomato part of the broth was what I had in hand, some leftover pizza sauce, garlic stewed tomatoes, tomato juice. Wanted a thicker more "lasagne" like broth and once the egg noodles cooked they helped.

I forgot to photograph before I began eating so this improvised vegetarian Lasagne Soup looks a bit messy. Topped with mozzarella & romano cheese. Having no broiler safe soup plates, just microwaved to melt the cheese and that was fine.

Broad egg noodles vs. lasagne, smokey tempeh "bacon", lentils, veg broth, onion, celery, kale, garlic,pesto,herbs.

A bright and lovely #moon (whose crisp seas my phone camera couldn't capture) made the one block return trip to the recycle bins enjoyable.

PS I was inspired to figure out where to get some near home on my Sunday bike ride. Breka Cafe Bakery had only a few left & husband and I just split these poppy & date ones. I'm sure they shouldn't be compared to homemade but they were as good as any bakery-made I've had.

I get it. I've chided myself for wishing so often for someone's death...and also reading comments the Vice Pres would make a terrible successor. It's impossible, though, not to feel the man's toxicity is overwhelming the US constitution and threats against people in his own party thwart justice.

And of course he's never stopped screeching there was a "Russia, Russia, Russia" intelligence community hoax re Russian interference to help elect him in 2016 and striving to punish all those tangentiallly involved through their jobs, weaponizing & corrupting US Justice.

My marathon training group leader decades ago helped make me a fan of the poppy ones, especially, and it's not easy to get good ones in Vancouver, BC.

I saw the post yesterday and tonight the first 2 ebooks I tried to buy on the site both came up "this product is temporarily unavailable" at checkout. I hadn't selected a particular bookstore and thought I shouldn't need to but perhaps I'm not clear on the concept. I'll try again before giving up.

Up in Vancouver, Canada the 11-storey office building I was in swayed noticeably. Not a lot of damage this far away except a co-worker whose china fell from a cabinet at home

I think what really moved this attack forward was increasing attention to Trump and other Republicans' sex crimes and the cover-up around them.

It's certainly serving to distract from that. I think there is no low this administration would not sink to, in order to prevent accountability.

2026Jan13, Point Grey Rd. Park at Stephens St. In one of the few places Vancouver beachfront is private Vancouver city bought some lots & made mini parks which have been greatly enjoyed since Point Grey Rd. itself was made a "greenway" favouring pedestrians/bikes/local traffic.

Stephens St. near York Avenue newly built home, beautifully echoing the craftsman style of Kitsilano's early 20th century houses. There have been a few such new houses built in recent times. This is on the lot of a small Victorian house that was at the back of the lot. A neighbour told us the elderly owner of that original house was a prospector.

2026Jan22 - Witch-hazel (Hamamelis) on Bayswater near 3rd Avenue. I'm fond of these very early blooms which appear on bare branches, often in quite cold weather.

2026Feb4 - False Creek Seawall near Drake St. Gord and I walked from home to downtown Costco that day. We enjoy on False Creek south seawall more often. It is much closer to home, has a more open feeling with lower-rise buildings and benefits from proximity to Granville Island and the public market. False Creek north was redeveloped in the years since, Expo '86 when the provincial government of the day virtually gave away the former industrial/then exposition land away to a foreign developer.

It was written up in our newspaper but I can't see how to get excited about wrapped sandwiches put out once daily. Said in Japan they're 4x daily.

Since I began pickling hard cooked eggs in the remaining dill pickle juice we make egg salad sands. with aioli on French or Scotch bap rolls.

The problem is they release them redacted and selectively, e.g. hiding critical accusations against Trump. The transparency act should have included audit mechanisms so that a corrupt justice department couldn't mess with the records.

A person's "size" should be graded by what they contribute to life in general. On that basis Mr. Reich stands tall.
DJT, in contrast, is tall in bodily terms but a very small person in his moral choices, egotism & unhealthy fixation on trying to belittle others.

The US has been corrupted to the core by this president whose personal shortcomings credibly include being a child rapist. Language issue reminds me of one of Canada's most infamous deaths in 2007. Robert Dziekanski, a Polish immigrant died after multiple taserings by RCMP at Vancouver airport. He couldn't communicate & they pre-planned a physical response.

I've tried to picture Americans who would applaud the AI fake video shared by the President that had him participating in the game dressed in business attire and gleefully punching Canadian players in the face. The US WH has slid so far down Trump's toxicity spills into areas unrelated to governing.

I was getting good physio from a practice that treated lots of athletes including those in team sports & once, it was obvious my physio was disappointed I had no interest not only for a big hockey game but for team sports in general. My teen experience was the jocks & jills were the school bullies.

Daphne brightened my walk Feb 24 with its sweet perfume.
