- To understand the urgency of emissions reductions, policymakers and citizens need a full analysis of what is at stake.

Writing with @rupertread.bsky.social about just how devastating the Government- suppressed security report is, particularly its conclusions about our food insecurity. Ministers should be helping to build our resilience to these threats, not burying the report that contains them π

In a sane world, this would be front page news everywhere.
But it will hardly be covered anywhere.
The North Pacific Ocean surface warmed over twice as much over the past 15 years than it did over the preceding 156 years.
That's an increase in warming rate of >2000%!

I have a new estimate:
Earth's albedo (reflectivity) has declined about 0.55% since 2000 (CERES data), the so-called "great darkening."
Just to restore the albedo lost since 2000 would require a band of mirrors (92% efficient) circling the earth at the equator about 90km wide.
The thickness of #Arctic sea ice dropped to a new all-time record low this year around the North Pole (data from PIOMAS). More in my latest 'climate viz of the month' blog: zacklabe.com/climate-viz-... #OpenScience #SciComm #DataViz #OpenData
