yeah, and my dad was raised in a Reagan loving household. I sometimes walk him to the line of his perceptions and how he "really" feels about things but then he'll always snap back to the poison he was raised with. its really painful

I think sometimes words don't matter to people like my dad. "felon" is just an insult, like "racist", completely disconnected from someone's actions and also literal court judgements.

when I asked him gently why his first instinct was to defend trump he was like "Im not defending, I hate him, I think he's the worst person on the planet, but also, clinton did bad stuff too" and i just left it at that

i dont talk to my dad about politics anymore but by accident I referred to "the felon in the white house" and my dad instantly jumped on and said "well clinton was a felon too" and like...we just live in two different realities. how do you bridge a the gap between two different realities
