26.02.2026 01:02 — 👍 1 🔁 0 💬 0 📌 0So, if games publishers do not retain ownership of review copies (like CDs and records back in the day), then ownership transfers to the reviewer. So, the reviewer can do whatever with it they want. Relationship with the publisher and ethics are the residual controlling factors, I think
25.02.2026 16:54 — 👍 0 🔁 0 💬 0 📌 0Understood, but I know music journalists and radio stations at that time who kept all review copies for a set length of time before selling/giving/etc. with an understanding that a record label could cease supplying review copies if a return request wasn’t met, that kept things a little above board.

I know some of these people/designs!! All so good! Check it out!
And congrats to the finalists!
This is fascinating to me. Do games publishers not have a stipulation of getting the game back if requested? I was in music journalism in 90s, preview copies were mostly stamped with disclaimer the publisher has right to get the medium back. I recently gave away 100s of previews, as 30 yrs felt safe

25.02.2026 15:29 — 👍 1 🔁 0 💬 0 📌 0That said, I designed one that has nonlinear movement (not a singular path) with cards that determine dice usage for movement, increasing agency, plus each player has different basic goals that require planning and higher-order thinking. Kids learn more and are challenged while adults still have fun
24.02.2026 13:55 — 👍 0 🔁 0 💬 0 📌 0Truthfully, I like roll and move. It is among the first mechanisms children learn because it provides progress and action on every turn while introducing or reinforcing other things to learn, from basic math to colors to critical-thinking skills. The challenge as a designer is making one for adults
24.02.2026 13:51 — 👍 0 🔁 0 💬 0 📌 0There are a few I have not played before and so many I would play again (and again). I would say, either Tiny Towns, 6 Nimmt (never played outside of BGA), and Quacks of Quedlinburg would be where I would start.

I challenge anyone under the age of 18 to read a book or two between now and the end of March that falls into one or more of these three categories:
Banned book
Black author
Woman author
So many to choose from, but let me suggest Their Eyes Were Watching God by Zora Neale Thurston.
Fantastic game!
Fantastic designer!
Fantastic achievement!
The first of many, my friend!

But I need to design the Action sides of the cards and the Pollution cards.
And maybe design the Currents and Gyre but less priority.

I am beginning to feel like the graphic design for the mini cards in The Great Patch is where I want it to be for @g2summit.bsky.social and @unpub.org . So, other than color and icon changes for the types of Conservation cards, that feels good. 🎲✂️

Excellent point from Connor.
Like any artistic endeavor, the creator is influenced by past works, even if only indirectly or tangentially.
First Abstract painters learned about painting, concepts, techniques, etc, then did something different with the knowledge and skill.
Game designers do the same
Agreed! One of the best albums of the 1980s!
My list includes:
Prince’s Purple Rain
U2’s Joshua Tree
Peter Gabriel’s So
Police’s Synchronicity
The Cure’s Disintegration
Peter Murphy’s Deep
INXS’ Kick
R.E.M.’s Document
The Replacements’ Tim
The Smiths’ The Queen Is Dead
Excellent. Now let’s move funds away from ICE and to the DOE among many other worthy agencies, organizations, and efforts that benefit humans and make our world a safer, more inclusive place.

Here's a great way show that you, too, celebrate the joy of human creativity, from @hinokodo.com:

Meanwhile, I suggest you back a creative or two, such as @peterlmcpherson.bsky.social ‘s new game Lodge.

A piece of paper showing a 4x4 grid mostly filled with drawings of buildings. Next to the grid are building names next to polyomino shapes with squares of different colors.
I make games because I love every step of the process—the initial idea, the scrappy first prototype, the first playtest filled with glee and failure and hope.
Here’s my scrappy first prototype of Tiny Towns. [1/6]
Dammit AEG. You should know better. AI is a major threat to creative people, in all mediums. A game CEO suggesting that AI could makes games “just as good” is enraging. Maybe a game CEO should announce support of creatives instead saying they are unnecessary.
You know what is unnecessary - AEG.
