Well, I will say that I love the premise. I should also say that, as you know, trout are an indicator species and the warm water fishes making their way upstream in a cold water system is well, touchy.

It’s true. Most of us (fly fishers) need to calm the fuck down. I mean, carp are the new tarpon. Make no mistake; bluegill are a blast.

I’m with you on reels for trout setups. Line-holders, for the most part. Now for saltwater or big game freshwater species, I’d argue on behalf of buying the best reel you can afford.

It’s an unsexy purchase, but you’re absolutely correct. It’s the difference-maker.

I’m curious about your thoughts, #flyfishing friends. I believe that a fly line, properly balanced for the rod, is the most important single expense in any setup. If you splurge anywhere, to me, that’s the spot.

A $200 rod today is so much better today than it used to be and the Freshwater is a solid combo at that price. For trout fishing, I always suggest buying the very best line you can. Same case here. Have fun out there!

I was due to head that way this week and gather up with Ben, but alas, work and winter prep has me pinned here in Idaho. My daughter is in the Munjoy Hill neighborhood in Portland.
