Frank is not the worst coach in the MAC, but when you look at some of the teams like Ball State last night and think about how much those coaches would love to have Bettiol, Banks, etc, it starts to feel like he might be having the worst season

The Ball State announcers just asked "who could've seen this coming" and the answer is "literally anyone who has ever watched a UMass basketball game"

Nobody has time for “good guys in that locker room, they just don’t defend.” Buddy, if they’re on a Frank Martin team (and I’ll allow that that still means something with regards to defense/tenacity) and they don’t defend, then guess what: they probably never defended! Your plan/vision was bad

Either prioritize guys who can play your defense first, and *then* look for shooting within the pool who at least has that defensive element, or, if you aren’t going to do that, like you decided not to this offseason, change (imagine that!) your defensive schemes to fit the guys you did go after

What’s discouraging about this year and going forward for Frank is he recruited offensive guys like Banks, Bettiol, and Parker to solve the shooting/scoring problems last year, but he didn’t vet the fact that they don’t defend in the ways *he* insists upon. There is a disconnect there…

At this point we have a 2-game safety net over Central Michigan, the team closest to pushing us (or Buffalo) out of the MAC tourney, but worth noting their next two games are against the other directional Michigans and ours are against Miami and Buffalo. UMass/Buffalo will be a big one either way
