As a young Assistant Professor, I attended a lecture by Watson at UT Austin. I was excited, I mean..DNA… I learned no science from his talk, but did learn he was a flaming sexist and racist. Worst of all, it went unremarked upon by my colleagues and the field. My lesson: this is what we face.

Besides Star Trek, another long standing interest of mine is Mesoamerican history and archaeology. You wouldn’t think there are a lot of connections between the two, but there are a few! So I thought I’d write a short thread about them (apologies if you’ve seen it before on the other site)…

Parents, PLEASE check your kids’ Halloween candy this year. I just found atoms in this candy bar that were formed during BIG BANG NUCLEOSYNTHESIS, and many more that were the result of earlier generations of stars exploding as POWERFUL SUPERNOVA. Parents need to know about this dangerous trend!!
