I was always under the impression that HAL Laboratory can basically do whatever it wants and make whatever games it wants, and Nintendo has basically no control over the direction of the Kirby series.

But maybe I'm wrong...? Dunno.

Every time I hear someone talk about the Kirby series and they say something like "Nintendo decided it was time for Kirby to have a full 3D platformer on the Switch" or "Why would Nintendo make a Kirby racing game right after Mario Kart" I always raise an eyebrow.

This is one of those games that I just need you to go play. It's an hour or so long and I think it's best experienced cold. It's beautifully done and if you are a fan of emotional games with impact then I cannot recommend this enough. Please go play this right now.
