Field predicated on capitalism insists on capitalism.

AI solves problems we already solved, because it copies someone else's answer. Real engineering is novel, fine tuned, and specific to the problem you're solving in a way AI cannot solve.

Effective tools of the past have been so good they're undeniable. React and JQuery won because they revolutionised JS development. AI makes programming worse, and every claim that it's solved a novel problem turns out a blatant lie.

I'm tempted to couch the view in "not that I'm against GenAI. But honestly, no. Companys just do not have the restraint necessary to use AI effectively, and it's easier than ever to use it badly.

You have to build processes and code that actually work and hope that product don't notice, because they'll do everything to fuck it up. It's an awful dynamic, and AI is just another bad idea you need to defend against.

One frustrating aspect of AI in tech is understanding that AI won't solve the problem they have, but explaining why requires more technical and product competence that the people pushing for AI have.
