I'm gonna say we're on a similar wavelength. Can't explain why HxH never did it for me though. YYH is about the emotion that drives the fight, and the absolute fucking hands that is the fight. You're not gonna get JJK fight sequences from this animation, but it's hand and hearts through and through.

By episode 9 you might be in to, episode 21 is where I tell people "if you don't like this by now you just don't like it" I did the same thing with H x H the author of YYHs next wildly more popular story, got 21 in and said nah, BUT episodes 26-66 are what people consider to be the pinnacle of YYH

I think naruto is the mcdouble of anime if I'm being honest. At moments, it goes hard af, but it is what it is. I can't lie and say YYH isn't seen through rose lenses stapled to my eyes, but I also do believe its one of a kind.

I know the first 5 episodes are kind of rough, usually Chris Sabat's breakdown in the first episode gets people, maybe you didn't watch it in english, but I can not tell you how many times I've seen "couldn't get past the first few episodes" and I totally get that, but it's a masterpiece of the 90s

There's contention about the last half of the show and if it was or was not as good as the first half, the first half good fighting, where the second half is more cerebral/based on the plot, also the writer was super fucking sick, so allegedly the quality suffered. I love every episode. No filler

If you get through all 112 episodes, you're gonna get to the end and go "oh a thousand different anime took inspiration from this" and feel good about it

There's literally an arc about a man who used to be the protagonist, he sees the epstein files before there were epstein files, and he decides humans gotta go. There's a tournament arc that is THE basis for all tournament arc in anime to this day. It's goated and I hope you like it.

I can give you a written guide off the top of my head. Episode 47 will make you cry big man tears. Episode 9 has street fighter cameos. Also Frieza is there. There is a character based on Broly who is voiced by the character who voiced Broly. If you don't like Broly that's ok I guess.

PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE I'm begging you watch at least the first 9 episodes, ideally 21(lmao), and then decide. The animation gets better as it goes, everything gets better as it goes. Also you have to watch it in english
