💚 Community Emergency Response Teams (CERT) empower Marylanders to help before, during, and after disasters.

CERT members are trained in first aid, light search and rescue, and community support. They work alongside local emergency management offices to strengthen resilience statewide.

On August 23, 2011, a magnitude 5.8 earthquake near Mineral, VA, shook Maryland and the East Coast. It is considered the most widely felt quake in U.S. history!

MDEM had an amazing time participating in the Annual Open House alongside our partners from the Harford County Sheriff’s Office, Maryland State Police, Maryland Forestry Service, and more.

Our team shared information on how to get #MdReady and handed out

These partnerships help the NWS and Maryland Department of Emergency Management issue timely warnings about severe weather—such as tornadoes and flooding—and collect valuable data to improve preparedness for future events. (4/4)

and made available to local and state emergency management personnel, MD's K-12 education, farmers, fishermen, water managers, air-quality monitors, wind and solar energy producers, transportation professionals, and the media. (3/4)
