Since 2020, Alcoa Police officers have responded to 976 vehicle accidents on Alcoa Highway. This year alone, data taken from Jan. 1 to June 20, vehicles have crashed on the highway 134 times. Using data from the city of Alcoa, this year’s crash to calendar-day ratio is approximately 4 to 5 — meaning an accident on the highway in Alcoa has an 80% chance of occurring every day, or wrecks are anticipated on 80% of days in a calendar year. In 2020, it was a 64% chance, 89% in 2021 and 77% in 2022. The nickname “Al-kill-ya Highway” has long preceded these statistics
