Of course none of that would be needed if we just ditched the insane electoral college. And, honestly, that’s probably not much harder than primary election reform. 🤷‍♂️

Unfortunately the dates for each states’ primary are set by the state itself so it’d be tough to get it done. It’s nothing but a bundle of bad incentives right now, often producing terrible candidates in the general.

Additionally, this gives incentives to states to get their numbers up to try and move earlier on the calendar in following years. It also favors a campaign style closer to the general (TV/internet) vs the Iowa caucus nonsense.

By taking a dynamic approach like this, the structure will favor the candidates who appeal to the most critical states. And the clincher in a tight race will fall in the final vote to the one appealing most to those areas.

Next, of course the next swingiest but not super close states. (5-15% gap maybe)
And, naturally, the last group would be the very blue and very red states. (Everybody else)

There should be 3-4 election dates, separated by two weeks or so. The order would be:
1st group: the states with the tightest margin in the last general election (0-5% gap in the vote for example)

I guess this is my excuse to make my pointless case again for how best to reform the primary process. It is designed to bring forth the best candidate who can win in the general.
