By analysing sediment samples of 49 beaver ponds at the Bamff Wildland estate in Perthshire, Emily found that the landscape is holding more carbon than if beavers weren’t present, due to their dams capturing water and sediment on an otherwise-drained site.

@emofthewoods.bsky.social presented research highlighting the significant amounts of carbon beaver ponds can store, making them potential overlooked climate allies.

🦫Research on Britain’s beavers gave us lots to chew on at #BES2025

We heard from two ecologists at @stir.ac.uk about their research looking at how land use impacts beaver behaviour and an overlooked nature-based solution these recovering rodents could be providing.
