By analysing sediment samples of 49 beaver ponds at the Bamff Wildland estate in Perthshire, Emily found that the landscape is holding more carbon than if beavers werenโ€™t present, due to their dams capturing water and sediment on an otherwise-drained site.

@emofthewoods.bsky.socialย presented research highlighting the significant amounts of carbon beaver ponds can store, making them potential overlooked climate allies.

๐ŸฆซResearch on Britainโ€™s beavers gave us lots to chew on at #BES2025

We heard from two ecologists atย @stir.ac.ukย about their research looking at how land use impacts beaver behaviour and an overlooked nature-based solution these recovering rodents could be providing.

day 2 saw the completion of the alexโ€™s audiomoth instalment, with 72 both near and away from beaver wetlands and control ponds, recording birds and bats mostly!

also featuring a moose salt lick and a jump in the lake after some hard work

HAPPY WORLD REWILDING DAY!โœจ

Yesterday at Scotland's Nature Student Conference, we heard many fantastic talks on nature restoration, and many included... beavers! ๐Ÿฆซ โœจ

Well done to Emily Simpson, a PhD student at the University of Stirling. She is studying wild beaver in Scotland.

Bumblebee population increases 116 times over in 'remarkable' Scotland project โ€˜The sound of traffic and a uniform sea of barley have been replaced by the most beautiful meadows, full of wildflowers, young saplings and the buzz of beesโ€™

So excited to hear all the good results coming out of Denmarkfield, Iโ€™m so lucky to have worked there, and definitely need a return visit to do some volunteering
