Just needlessly hostile framing for a study that DOT worked on with MIT.

NYC DOT has brought pedestrian fatalities to their lowest levels. We are aware that our pedestrian model is based on a simple formula, which is why the agency worked with MIT on this study. We'll be continuing to work with MIT to build a more comprehensive model for predicting pedestrian activity.

A strange but true finding about NYC congestion pricing:

Drivers’ time savings have overwhelmingly gone to those traveling *outside* the toll zone (i.e., driving from Brooklyn to Queens or within NJ) – not those headed into Manhattan.

Keith Haring’s massive FDR Drive mural from 1984 is on display now in Chinatown. It was endearing seeing all the tags made over the work.

Did just this when I was last in NYC with some conference friends, and it was glorious. Chicago could use these too!

Worth underscoring: DOT expects a level of undercounting at these sensors due to bikes missing them, sensitivity of sensors, or other interferences. All but one location included in the study had smaller levels of undercounting.

Cannot wait to see this work continue down to Grand Army Plaza next year with the block-long, concrete bus boarding islands, which will really make Flatbush feel much calmer and help pedestrians cross more easily.
