I dunno, but appealing to "everyone" can only work when "everyone" is usually on the same page of things. But when one side's beliefs is that certain ppl shouldn't exist and that there's nothin wrong with their harmful actions, well... you can't stay in the middle for too long....

there was one, then its all but been decimated cause "Oh no, we don't want to piss off MAGA in implying there's injustices in govt and that we might actually have done some bad things that we need to answer for".

Winter Soldier was a political thriller with a lot of anxieties of the time, primarily the collection of data, surveillance state, extremists in govt, etc, used as a conflict point and portrayed negatively.

New World Order? It feels like it WANTS to have a message, but if truly (cont)

is a more valuable demographic.

This has particularly gotten worse in recent times with how polarized politics has gotten all while Disney continues trying to "appeal to both sides". A movie like Wall-E could not be done under current Disney, and you could see even in the MCU (cont)

on the presence of LGBT themes in media also aimed at children. Thus a quagmire loop, Disney is the "everyone's welcome" company so clearly they have to appeal to the LGBT community, but they also management doesn't want to put their full weight with that support lest they lose what they feel (cont)

Which is to mean... "they want their cake and to have it to", Disney wants LGBT rep for the sake of it and cause "it could draw in more ppl" but they also don't want to throw weight into it due to not wanting to lose certain markets and maybe even some conservative belief (cont)

A demographic which is small in numbers on its own considering the actual population of ppl who are LGBT, but is even smaller when one considers that ppl who are LGBT wouldn't automatically give Disney support, especially if Disney's own support back isn't build on solid foundations (cont)

But its not just that Disney/Pixar wants their films to fail, but rather twofold; how they view the LGBT community and their "appeal to everyone" mentality. Disney arguably views the inclusion of LGBT elements not as something natural but an appeal to a demographic (cont)

A big shift occurred when Lasetter left, a shift towards personal stories which i found rather welcoming. It didn't become clear in their movies yet but you could see it in their short films during the 2010s. Yet time and again, I have seen these projects sabotaged (cont)

and yet their movies have been more than what you see on the surface; The Incredibles have a whole midlife crisis and a suspected affairs subplot, Wall-E is one big well made environmental PSA exploring "fixing the issue vs ignoring it". All things more complex than "gay people exist" (cont)

A lot of Pixar movies have a kid appeal in the form of their simplified premise; "living toys", "cute robot love story", "cooking rat", "super hero family!", "a world with living cars!", these movies arguably could have been nothing more than their premise and you'd get lotsa kids intrigued (cont)

Oh boy do I have a lot to talk about this, as a long time Pixar fan and also someone who's found Disney's recent direction very... perplexing to say the least.

Pixar movies have in the past shown kids things more complex than "oh gay people exist".
