I fear that some Europeans will still try to woo Trump. This has been his objective from day 1. His pretence at possibly supporting Ukraine has just been a stall and has worked to the extent that Europe have wasted most of this year not preparing for this eventuality. They’ve been played.

Trump is looking for an ’out’ on Ukraine. His National Security plan makes it very clear that he sees Russia as an ally and Europeans as the enemy. If this doesn’t make genuine Republicans kick back nothing will.

And so the backsliding begins.
Europe should now take all of Russian money that has been tied up and use it to fund support for Ukraine.

Is it not about time we stopped this? It’s the same playbook as Trump has used.

What I do have an issue with is the way NYT word the “facts”. In ref to Witkoff/Putin/Kushner meet it was described as “to discuss the conflict” when the growing evidence suggests that they are discussing how to make business deals with little care for Ukraine or the Europeans.

I do have some sympathy for NYT. Further down that article, Khan states that “Some critics tend to assume that if we’re not clearly on their side, we must be on the other side”. 1/2

It’s Christmas so how fitting that we have a pantomime. The US/Russia talks are a scam. They’re scheming on how to carve up Ukraine for their financial benefit.
The Europeans cannot allow Trump to stall this any longer.
He’s always been Putin’s asset in the WH.

They should include GB News in that investigation.

Labour leadership has not covered themselves in glory thus far but in comparison to the hot mess that has been inherited or the hot mess that Farage would create, we need to appreciate that it was and could be worse.

He’s also giving Trump an ‘out’ by promoting ‘plans’ which he knows Ukraine cannot accept which allows Trump to eventually walk away or justify him continuing to back Putin. Putin is right. The Europeans are notorious for blinking and they have done little to build capacity to offset US withdrawal.

It maybe theatre but it’s doing damage. This panto will go the same way as Israel/Gaza (340 Palestinians killed since ‘ceasefire’).
The damage comes from the Europeans deluding themselves that they can convince Trump to back Ukraine. I worry that Euro solidarity will fracture and leave Ukr hanging.

Shah and Gibb once again demonstrating partiality in who they cancel. And to think it’s the radical right that whine about free speech being under attack.

Hopefully Trump will know how he feels soon.

Sorry Brian if I misinterpreted your previous comment. When I read ‘legal migrants are unwanted’ it sounded like you were against immigration.

I’m sure I read similar comment in the early 1940s. Different country though.

Brian, I hope you are in good health and remain that way for many years. If not, you may require support from the likes of our NHS which would keel over without the tremendous efforts of immigrants.

What seems to have been forgotten in all of this focus on illegal immigrants is that it’s a tiny segment of the whole. We are also in danger of making those who entered legally feel that they are unwanted. Stop pandering to Farage.

Their intervention may not have been ideal but in the spectrum of idealism, it was at the other end from how this president operates.
