Person wearing black shirt holds a large black tube in a laboratory. Text says: ‘“I love the freedom I have in my job to pursue varied topics, both in and out of the lab, and being able to work with people across different areas of research. I also love working in a field where I can see real-world applications to my research, helping contribute towards improving indoor air quality for all.” - Amber Yeoman’.
Person with long hair, wearing an orange top, stands and reaches upwards towards a metal pipe on top of a large metal container. Text says: ‘“What do I love about my job? Atmospheric chemistry research is all about problem solving - whether that's big problems, like how does the chemistry impact air quality in cities? - or small problems, like why am I getting that result in a particular lab experiment? It is always very satisfying to figure out the solution!” - Lisa Whalley’.
Person wearing a high visibility jacket walks down the aisle of research aircraft. The person is carrying a box of equipment. Text says: ‘“I love that every day is completely different to the next! One day I might be in the lab mocking up some code for a new instrument, and the next I might be flying over the North Sea looking at ice habits of various cloud types.” - Olivia Whiteside’.
In honour of the 10th anniversary of the International Day of Women and Girls in Science (IDWGS), we’re spotlighting a few of the incredible women who lead groundbreaking atmospheric research at the National Centre for Atmospheric Science. They told us what they love about their job 💙

In countries like the UK, people can spend up to 90% of their time indoors – exposing them to invisible and often ignored sources of air pollution.
In recognition of @globalactionplan.bsky.social #CleanAirNight (22/01/25), we’re resharing some studies on indoor air pollution:

Our new paper modelling radical chemistry of HOMEChem is out now. The paper, led by Toby and Freja, follows a bleach cleaning event and used #INCHEM-Py to discover and develop missing HONO mechanisms based on good agreement with measurement. @niccarslaw.bsky.social
