Thanks! Working my way through a few "distractions" on the painting shelf before I go back to more Whigs...

One of those inevitable distractions - I fancied painting something different from the 1685 stuff, so here are some British Grenadiers for the American War of Independence- I've had these sat in a box for 12-15 years or so, nice to actually get some paint on them. #painting #miniatures #awi

The wagon train moves out! A few random wagons, for any occasion. Again, these are Wargames Foundry models - we mainly use these for our Monmouth/1685 games, but they could be used for a variety of purposes, objectives or scenarios. #oneking #minatures #wargaming

As ever, apparently on review there were quite a few spelling and grammatical mistakes in the heat of battle! Hopefully it all makes sense!

They're actually rather minor, but hopefully provide a bit of flavour. The only other change not on here is that we changed to turn order - initiative, shooting, orders, combat.
We may change a few things going forward once we've had a few more games!

Thanks to my opponent @kahteh.bsky.social for a lively evening. I didn't expect things to disintegrate quite so quickly for Feversham's forces, but the Whigs got a lot of lucky disorders in the last few turns, meaning the fighting withdraw became a rout.

Monmouth graciously takes the Foot Guards' surrender. Today has been a great success for the Whigs. The road to London lies open, and the Government field army lies shattered. Will James II be replaced, by (slightly confusingly) another James II? Only time will tell...

While a few Government regiments have managed to withdraw, the army is severely depleted, and withdraws, covered by the 1st Foot Guards...

Kirke's Regiment manage to withdraw to the hill, and the Government forces leave the battlefield...

Further disaster! The Royal Scots break under volleys of musket fire from the Yellow Regiment!

Churchill manages to withdraw the dragoons, and, re-mounted, they cover the artillery so it can retreat. But what about the foot?

Volleys from the Whig line disorder the retreating Government forces - will they be able to get away at all, or has it all gone rather pear shaped?

A volley from the Green Regiment disintegrates the disordered Blues, and they flee the field!

Given there has been little damage to the Whig line, Feversham decides it is best to withdraw his army while it still has some strength. It is pointless to press the attack today, against such strong opposition. The Government artillery start to limber up with the wagon train

To add further injury to the Government forces, the Grenadiers finally break and are run down. Kirke's brigade is now broken, having lost 2/3s of its strength.

Meanwhile, Trelawany's break as a burst of grapeshot smashes out if the hedgerow into them!

The Green Regiment turns about face, and delivers a volley into the Blues, disordering them

The battle hangs in the balance. A few until have broken on both sides, and the armies are fully committed, both with a single thin line and no reserves left...

The Blues smash into the light cannon, and despite taking a blast of grapeshot quickly rout the gun crew. A cavalry trooper falls to an errant sponge in the melee, leaving the victorious unit somewhat battered

Despite the odds, and a number of men falling, the Grenadiers hold their ground against the press of Whig horse...
