Autism isn’t a disease to be cured or even eradicated. It’s a neurotype that results in many of the most beautiful and creative brains to have existed. Autists need systemic support to thrive in a world built for allistics, not the blame and shame that make our lives harder than they need to be.

Creativity entails exploration, even if it transgresses one’s moral qualms or depicts illegal acts. Bans on specific content inevitably expand to stifle expression altogether. It starts with contentious material (“degenerate art”, anyone?), then escalates toward absurdity.

To me, the issue is that you cannot apply the concept of consent to fiction because consent requires consciousness. Fiction is not conscious. The characters do not actually exist. So how is there any determination of consent? Bsky has not defined this in the ToS update. #bskycensorship

The restrictions Bluesky is trying to implement on fictional content is idiotic and can very easily be abused by moderation teams. We’ve seen it happen on tumblr already with queer content constantly being flagged after the porn ban. No one wants this.

Bluesky moderation has proven that they cannot identify actual sexual content. I do not trust them to ban only noncon sex And even then noncon deserves to exist with flags. Also the rules about self harm are ridiculous They do not owe anyone to be educational about their experience

it should go without saying but if you want users to voluntarily tag their art then you need to not threaten to ban them if they do. like, you can either have a well-regulated, easily-filtered art ecosystem or you can ban art you don’t like and see it come oozing back out of every crack and crevice

I think ao3 has the best system tbh. You can find anything on there, ANYTHING, disturbing, disgusting, noncon, you name it. But it’s all perfectly labeled and because of that, all that stuff you don’t want to see? You’ll never see it. Only those who go looking will find it. No one gets hurt!

I may be going off on a tangent here...

Nothing will (or arguably should) make art more compelling to people than learning that there's controversy surrounding it.
