In a 1972 study, Donald Appleyard showed how traffic rates influence social interactions & friendships.
People living on HEAVY TRAFFIC streets;
0.9 Friends
3.1 acquaintances
People living on LIGHT TRAFFIC streets;
3.0 friends
6.3 acquaintances
Prioritize people over traffic.
Framing The Story of Parking Reform The language we use evokes emotion and mental short cuts; we like to create coherent stories. Framing the story of parking reform in a compelling way will help us succeed. Don't Say: Parking Requirements The word “requirements” indicates something is required, implicitly that it is needed. It is also value-neutral. Instead Use: Costly Parking Mandates Remind people parking costs money and land to provide. And use the term “mandates” which implies a heavier hand. Parking Reform Network - parkingreform.org This work draws on Evan Manvel’s work for the Transportation and Growth Management program at the State of Oregon
Don't say "Parking Requirements"
Instead use "Costly Parking Mandates"

Thank you Zoning & Platting Commissioners! Today, #Austin got one step closer to ending the Euclidean stranglehold: "THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED that the following commercial uses be added to the list of ALLOWABLE uses in all MF zoning categories... and CONDITIONAL uses in all SF zoning categories"

This is why, all else being equal, a two-way protected bikeway is better than two one-way protected bikeways.
The former allows passing, while the latter is often too narrow.
This is not a universal problem, but has been the case with a number of recent Bay Area projects.

I’m team bikeshare everywhere.
...these projects could induce the equivalent of more than 77 million cumulative metric tonnes of CO2e emissions above pre-IIJA baseline levels from 2022 and 2040. This is equivalent to the CO2e emissions produced from running 20 coal-fired power plants for a year.".
