I didn't wake up last night to see the lunar eclipse... ๐ฌ
But I thought I'd share my best lunar eclipse picture. Taken at @mcdonaldobs.bsky.social in 2022 with a GoPro while using the HJST, one of the #astrophotography images I'm pretty proud of. ๐ญ
Not a big fan of windy days, but the Sun looks really nice this evening. The dust gives lots of pretty colors. Kinda #astrophotography I guess?

Not excited about the weather forecast though, not used to those conditions in west Texas. ๐ฅถ
I have students do Zooniverse classifications for extra credit in my intro classes, excited to talk to them about this project in a few months!

2025 marks the 100th anniversary of the publication of Cecilia Payneโs work on the chemistry of stars. Her thesis demonstrated how to interpret the spectra of starlight and thus their chemical composition. It is one of the most important astronomy discoveries ever! Happy 2025! ๐ญ

Nova Cat
Added a new member to the family this weekend. The shelter we got him from named him Minx, but being only 3 months old, obviously I had to convince my family to rename him something #stars related, so... Meet Nova!
He's still pretty shy, but I'm sure he'll take over the house in no time ๐
I see some familiar faces in that picture! I was a postdoc at NAOC under Zhao Gang and worked closely with Chen YuQin. They do really awesome work there!

Nice! That is pretty dark out there.
I gave a talk at Mason's library and at Junction's library a few months before the total eclipse, and I took a big group of students to Leakey to see the eclipse.
