Is limiting the temperature increase to 1.5Β°C still possible? - Glen P. Peters, 2024 It is always possible to find arguments to make 1.5Β°C forever possible, but they increasingly diverge from reality. It is time to admit that the world will cros...

Seeing calls "to keep 1.5Β°C within reach" at #COP30 and am unsure what to make of them. What would a failure to recognise reality mean? Does it mean we are also not recognising the need to adapt to a 1.5Β°C world?

Title, author’s name, and abstract from a paper about decision-making about climate change adaptation

Title, author’s name, and abstract from a paper about decision-making about climate change adaptation

Various methods are used to support #ClimateChange adaptation decisions, eg, scenario planning. Naleau notes invisible factors, eg, rules of thumb, often affect #decision processes. She suggests research should focus on understanding decision quality. @dialoguescc.bsky.social doi.org/10.1177/2976...

The early IPCC was a net positive.

The IPCC continues to be good for many people inside the IPCC.

I'm not sure the late IPCC is a net positive.

It seems to be that 1.5C scenarios are still useful as an extreme, but can't agree more than IAM research needs to begin focussing more on the local dynamics necessary for global outcomes.

"As 1.5Β°C is passed, there is the risk modellers will just make more elaborate overshoot pathways and continue the roadshow of impossibly steep emission declines while, in reality, emissions continue to rise and climate impacts worsen."
