But I've enjoyed listening to Face Value this week, and I'm looking forward to hearing more of Phil's solo work.
Peter totally on his own, Phil doing his own stuff and continuing to work with the band; it's a good time to be a fan of the expanding #Genesis universe!

Tomorrow Never Knows closes the album, but rather than Phil, I half expect Eddie Vedder to start singing. Its opening reminds me so much of how the #PearlJam album Ten opens. Then they quickly diverge, and any resemblance is lost.

Largely about his divorce, Phil takes a more direct approach to lyrics and emotion in his writing here. He played demos of a few of his songs to the band, and Misunderstanding and Please Don't Ask ended up on their Duke album, but those two tracks would have fit on Face Value very well too.

A closeup black and white photo of Phil Collins's face; relatively expressionless. At the top of the photo, "Phil Collins" and "Face Value" are printed in a stylized script.
After And Then There Were Three was released, #PhilCollins took some time away from the band to, unsuccessfully, work on his first marriage. When he came back, Tony and Mike were working on individual projects, so Phil started to do the same. "Face Value" became his first solo record.

Screen shot from Great Circle Mapper showing 3 flights for a total of 10,622 miles.
Photograph of a Singapore Airlines 787-10, taken from the front right.
4 warehouses in two days, and a lot of good conversation; nice little trip to India.
But now back to airplanes.
Today was the 787-10, and my first time on Singapore Airlines; definitely lived up to expectations!
Then a quick drive across the strait, and into Malaysia for the next few days.

MUJI!!
One of the signs that Chicago isn’t actually a world class city is that we don’t have MUJI. If I’m in a city that has one (and I will be again next week), I always go!
There are some in NY, but not the same as Tokyo, Singapore, Stockholm, etc.
Such a great store.

Screen shot from Great Circle Mapper showing the direct path from Newark to Delhi, and a total distance of 8043 miles so far.
Screen shot from FlightRadar24 of the actual flight path taken from Newark to Delhi, since the Great Circle wasn’t an option due to restrictions of Russian airspace.
Next was Newark to Delhi on a United 787-9, the first of each of the 3 variants I’ll be on during this trip.
My first time in India, though I won’t get to see much more than the traffic and some warehouses.
Loooong day; now I sleep 🤞

Maybe being affectionate throws them off the scent that you’re actually an old married couple?
I don’t think we’ve been asked in a really long time; not that I remember at least.

U.S. men's hockey with Curt-Schilling-in-Boston levels of good will squandering. A 25-mile lead in the good will marathon and they tripped on their dicks right at the finish line.

A journey of 20k+ miles starts with … a flight to Newark.
Very smooth, despite the issues they’ve faced out here the last couple days. @united.com kept us informed, and everyone we’ve talked to has been great!
Now a little sitting before the next one …

I can’t count the people to whom I’ve describe marriage as a conversation about dinner, every day, for the rest of your life. If you can do that with this person, marry them! But if you can’t picture that?
Because dinner will take an outsized portion of your attention … forever.

Ultimately, Moving Pictures is a really good album. Personally, I think the first two tracks, while good, aren't as great as a lot of other Rush fans feel. But they do add to a really good album, that I've loved listening to multiple times this week.

In a documentary about them, Neil Peart talked about Limelight, and how he struggles with the fame aspect of the job. I can't even imagine what it's like to always have to "pretend the stranger is the long awaited friend."
The lyrics say so much about who Neil was, and it's just a great track.

Witch Hunt however has always been my favorite track from this album. I don't remember when I first got this record, but there was something about that track that really resonated with me.
It seems even more relevant today.

Right at the top, I'll acknowledge that in the eyes of many, I'm about to lose my #Rush Fan Card.
"Moving Pictures", the next album from them is good, and a good Rush album is still better than a lot of other things.
But it's lead track is the most overrated song in their catalog.

The fact that not one member of the men’s hockey team took one for the team, and body checked KP into the nearest wall, makes me lose any respect I had for them.
Maybe that’s why he only partied with the men. He knew the women’s team would have rightfully kicked his ass.

Okay BlueSky aviation folks; weather question.
On Tuesday, I’m flying ORD to EWR, and then on internationally. The worst of the weather should be over🤞. But should my colleague and I start talking to UA about alternate plans now?

Can’t wait to listen; I really want to know how @stevenomadic.bsky.social and Nathan got hooked up together.
The Rehearsal was such a strange show, and impossible to describe. And while I had to turn it off a couple times because I was so uncomfortable for them, I always went back. Really good!

* Anyone who knows me knows that this is totally in character, doing or not doing something just to be a little shit; it's the younger sibling in me.
It's how I became a part of #BillsMafia, my dad's hometown team. I had to root for someone other than our Chicago Bears just to piss off my brother.

I'm glad that I've come back to this one with reason to listen to it more than once, before just moving on. I've loved having this on repeat this week. It's a really good album, and I think it'll make its way into the regular rotation.
I'm excited to listen to more U2 with my renewed ears!

Boy is still a little punk, a little new wave, and with very sparse arrangements. But I'm here for it now!
I will Follow, Out of Control, Stories for Boys, and The Electric Co in particular are kind of frantic. They each get my leg bouncing, and a little air drumming in the middle of the workday.

I don't remember when I first went back and picked up "Boy", the debut from #U2. But I do remember never really liking it when I listened. A little punk, a little new wave, sparse arrangements; it wasn't for me.
But for a long time, U2 as a whole was never really for me.

My default would be San Diego. PetCo is a nice ballpark, right near downtown. It’s great.
Dodger Stadium is … overrated. It’s hard to get to, and it’s the Dodgers; meh.
But it’s also the 3rd oldest park in baseball, so that could be a worthwhile draw for you.
If I was choosing 1 to go back to; SD
