So, so instructive to compare media response to Afghanistan withdrawal -- months of hysterical garment-rending & catastrophizing, relentless criticism of the admin -- with the response to an unprovoked, unmotivated, illegal war of aggression, ie, "some critics say maybe Trump should have reasons."

A big part of the authoritarian playbook is war. War takes over the news. War blots out criticism. War divides a nation’s people, subjecting those against it to being called unpatriotic. War grants leaders all sorts of emergency powers. War consumes everything else.

We mustn’t let this war do so.

"Congress should have to vote to authorize wars" is one of those things that's overwhelmingly popular except for among the people who actually have the power to make it happen.

Which is why we should stop calling Social Security, Medicare, Medicaid, SNAP, Unemployment, etc. "entitlements." They're earned benefits. Entitlement = negative.

The entire Democratic strategy debate — "moderate" or move left? fight or compromise? — is based on a misreading of data. Voters don't think Dems are too progressive; they think Dems are weak. The actual math on what to do about this isn't even close!

Once again, reactionary centrist advice boils down to "don't make the argument," - at best. Often it's pile onto the argument the opposition makes it politer terms.

Politics 101: Run against your opposition not the people your opposition shames/blames/scapegoats.
