One of the crazy things about the AI bubble bursting is that consumer sentiment toward AI has always leaned skeptical to outright negative but it’s an industry propped up by pure billionaire greed, sycophancy, and childish fantasy

Hugely appreciate both you David (and our rather fantastic agent Julia) and Caroline and Fritha and all who are fighting the good fight for a future for the industry we all love. ✊

...those in power are sawing off the branch they are sitting on. You cannot solve scarcity and austerity with more of the same. To have a future, the TV industry needs to invest in itself again - creativity, risk, a willingness to fail, experimentation. New voices. New stories...

The more voices the better on these issues imo. What we're seeing is the end of our industry being sustainable for all but the most 'successful' and it all comes from fear, panic and scarcity. Focusing only on the 'successful' might appear to be viable in the short term but in reality...

You don’t get to bankroll a genocide…

Embolden and cheer on the perpetrators

…and then call yourself a hero for pulling the plug.

And if anyone knows of what she speaks on this subject, it’s Caroline… the fear and scarcity mindset that’s currently driving commissioning is truly off the charts at this point. And ironically everyone suffers - including audiences - except the chosen few… it must change.

Irony being that the entire Farage-isation of British politics is built on the phenomenon of white right-wingers who don't want to "integrate" with the reality of multi-ethnic Britain, don't want to accept migrants as their fellow citizens, and don't want people of colour moving into their street.

Every word... more people with RTD's clout and influence need to be standing up and speaking out in this way. "Censorship is in us." TV needs leaders and champions who stand up for the world we want to see and be. "TV is a light in the dark and we must not let that flame go out!"

Not seen Frauds yet but concur that the 'zero sum' game of rampaging austerity is driving TV towards the undemanding. I call it the 'success-ocracy' where fear and scarcity drives decision makers away from risk, the new, and anything other than 'the known'. We need change.

Great story. Can't overstate the desperation in creative industries right now. Nearly every person I know who previously had a viable, or even lucrative, career in media/entertainment is in a financial panic, leaving longtime apartments, desperately taking any work they can find. It is really bad.

Bill Hicks used to do a bit about new US presidents being shown footage of the JFK assassination from the grassy knoll to make them toe the line….

What do new UK Home Secretaries get shown to turn them from rational sane people into raging authoritarian zealots?

Seven years ago today, Washington Post journalist Jamal Khashoggi was tortured, murdered and then dismembered. And any so-called comedian who can't stand up tonight in Riyadh and do ten minutes on that kind of hijinx and horseplay just isn't worth the Saudi blood money he's being paid.

Rachel wearing very flimsy looking apron, mask and visor in NHS setting

Here I am in 2020 in the flimsiest, most pitful PPE - like so many other NHS staff, some of whom died from the Covid they caught in their hospitals.

Tory peer Michelle Mone - who today lost her legal case & must repay the govt £122m - dares to claim she’s been ‘scapegoated’.

What, Michelle? 🧵

What’s depressing me isn’t rich hacks taking the blood payday. It’s how unconcerned they are. Their management knows audience/attendance won’t take significant hits. Enough people won’t know/care/remember or they’ll actively support it to own the libs. That’s where our culture is at. It just sucks.
