Happy birthday in movie heaven to my favorite Japanese director, Kinji Fukasaku (born July 3, 1930), known for Battle Royale, Black Lizard, Battles Without Honor and Humanity, and of course, Message from Space! He would have been 95 years old today.

Kenta Fukasaku, screenwriter for Battle Royale and son of Kinji Fukasaku, who directed it. Kenta Fukasaku screenwrote Battle Royale II as well as directed it after the passing of his father.

It has been announced that Tatsuya Fujiwara will appear on stage to greet the audience at the screening of "Battle Royale" at the Marunouchi TOEI in Tokyo on July 15th with Kenta Fukasaku!

PUBG, Fortnite, etc. Are directly inspired by Battle Royale to the point the gaming genre is named after it. PUBG even has outfits from the BR movie. Not to even mention that THG itself (and others like Squid Game) also were influenced by Battle Royale.

Battle Royale video game genre is actually inspired by and based on the 1999 novel Battle Royale by Takami Koushun and the 2000 movie of the same name directed by Kinji Fukasaku.

Manga was made after the novel! I don't think the author ever preferred one over other, but he did write both of them. They're both incredible and worth a read!

Getting the physical manga might prove a little difficult though, but it's online for free on many manga sites, so it's easily accessible 🙂

Yes, but you can read either one first, doesn't really matter! The manga follows more closely the original novel than the movie did, as it was also written by Takami Koushun himself, but still has its own take on it.
