Hard agree! Or just past ECR stage and heading in MCR stage without a permanent job… married to and having had children with someone who does have a permanent job - so you can’t just move to follow the opportunities…

Exactly this! And we know that people hire and support people who look, act, and think like them… so this will be terrible for diversity

Try doing any kind of high quality terrestrial ecology field experiments with wild mammals within a 2 year timeframe… basically impossible. Some kinds of science take a lot longer and depend on many more interacting and uncontrollable factors than others!

This is already a HUGE problem and will continue to concentrate the power in the hands of the few… Big Professors hand-picking their protégées to replace themselves and supporting their careers is already an issue, and the need to have a “champion” to get anywhere is just such an imbalance of power!
