Often cited as being born on 19th February 1889, but it was actually the 18th, Joe Clennell won the league with Blackburn Rovers and Everton before enjoying a widely-travelled career.

Happy 82nd birthday, Henry Newton.
A big-money buy from Nottingham Forest in 1970, he was restricted to 85 Toffees appearances by illness and competition for places. The midfielder was sometimes deployed at left-back, ahead of namesake Keith. League winner with Derby County.
Here is a look at how the Toffees were seeking to protect their pitches from the elements at the dawn of the 1970s. Artificial surfaces were already being mooted.
A nice mention for groundsman Alan Storey, too. More on him, here:

An excellent new Paul Owens article is up on our website. It's titled:
Earning their stars and stripes β international standard goalkeeping.

Who is the most impactful Toffees signing?
Itβs hard to look past William Ralph Dean, but Bobby Collins, born 16 February 1931, helped to transform a dormant-feeling club in the late 1950s and propel the Blues in the 1960s. Leeds United supporters may concur on his influence.

Kevin Sheedy and Kevin Richardson were on target; the latter also got away with a handball to deny a Villa goal.
