Stubble runner

Hare running quickly through the corn stubble just after dawn. Stunning light and backdrop for this beauty, running the full width of the field before diving into the small woodland at one edge of the field.

Chalkhill Blue and Ladybird, dew-covered

I love getting out ridiculously early, before sunrise in summer to find roosting butterflies, ideally covered in dew. The solitude is wonderful, & I can't beat the tranquility of finding & photographing beautiful insects.

Large numbers of snipe going about their spectacular drumming courtship. To watch & listen is an extraordinary privilege - what a sound.

This one perched atop a grassy mound, resting & watching, before the next round of drumming.

The Lick

Young, very healthy looking fox popped out of the woods into the edge of the field where I was watching hares. He watched me for a few minutes and then nonchalantly wandered off over the field, not once looking back !

Family outing

Great Crested Grebe mother taking her two grebelings for a ride round the lake, whilst the father hunts for fish to feed them all. Almost silhouetted against the sparkly bokeh of the setting sun.

Dipper with a bill full of nesting material.

Wonderful to watch dippers industriously flying back and forth to collect huge amounts of nesting material, interspersed with the odd stop to feed or pretend in the rapid water.
