Observe the amazon van in Oberlin. Exhausted. Disoriented. Separated from its pack. It disperses packages at random, a sign of distress. Soon the sun will set and the gender studies feralings will emerge. It is doubtful van will survive the night.

ID 6: Same background. To the left, "Dateable: Swiping Right, Hooking Up, and Settling Down While Chronically Ill and Disabled" by Jessica Slice and Caroline Cupp. The background is a hazy aqua blue and electric yellow tye dye. The title is all in bright, canary yellow letters which alternate, first large and wide, then tall and narrow with "Date" stretching across the top and "Able" an uneven square in itself with each letter occupying roughly one quadrant. "Ask Me about My Uterus: A Quest to Make Doctor's Believe in Women's Pain" by Abby Norman. A blue-black background sits behind a set of flowers grouped to mimic a uterus, two wrapping out to the right simulating ovaries. The title in white sits above the flower uterus, the author's name below.

We picked up Jessica Slice and Caroline Cupp's "Dateable" for all the crip dating advice. It feels fitting that we start here before "Unfit: A Disabled Mother Challenges an Inaccessible World" releases (but don't worry, we'll have copies of that one soon too).

ID 5: Same background. The title to the left is "Hunchback" by Saou Ichikawa. A gray cover features a figure made of several orange ovals assembled together in a simulacrum of a human shape hunched over, hands in their head. The title to the right is "The Gloomy Girl Variety Show" by Freda Epum. The dark blue background has a circle at the center of a lighter blue tone, some tropical seeming trees shaded the same blue inside the circle. In front of the circle is a watercolor illustration of a black woman with medium length dreads in an orange blouse, hands in the hair at the crown of her head as she stares out at the viewer.

"The Gloomy Girl Variety Show" by @fredaepum.bsky.social was an instant pick up after we read our galley copy, and you are in good company when you're in the same book batch as "The Year of the Tiger" by Alice Wong.

ID 4: Same background. The book to the left is "Poor Little Sick Girls: A Love Letter to Unacceptable Women" by Ione Gamble. A cartoon woman reclines with her elbow resting on the arm of a couch, staring into a mirror with a nightmask dangling from her other hand, bags under her eyes. A table to her left is cluttered with a variety of medical and beauty mishmash, including scattered white pills, an inhaler, a makeup brush, cucumber slices, matches, a candle, a purse, and a glass of water. The cover to the right is "Out on a Limb" by Hannah Bonam-Young. A couple is together on the couch, a man wearing a black long sleeve shirt and gray pants with tousled blond hair and glasses sits on one side with his arm on a pillow, his right leg a prosthetic up to the knee. A woman with long, dark hair in a kelly green sweater and teal pants lays across the couch, snuggled up under his arm.

Ione Gamble brandishes wit with a whistle as she slices into pop culture and our so very online worlds in "Poor Little Sick Girls" while Hannah Bonam-Young brings out all the cozy spoons with "Out on a Limb".

ID 3: Same background. The book to the left is "The Body is a Doorway: A Journey Beyond Healing, Hope, and the Human" by Sophie Strand. The cover is a sea blue background with three leaves branching off from a stem that disappears at the end of the left side of the cover. The large, dark green leaves bend around the outlined shape of a woman, a lighter shade of the same blue as the background, only her red hair actually seen. The book to the right is "Some of Us just Fall: On Nature and Not Getting Better" by Polly Atkin. A cream cover with purple flowers taped as if to a wall, a yellow flower, wilting and shedding petals as it falls.

Sophie Strand and @pollyrowena.bsky.social each brings their own unique voice into the growing chorus of literature recognizing the intersection of the disabled body and ebbs and flows of nature with "The Body is a Doorway" and "Some of Us Just Fall".

ID 2: Same background, though the stack of books and "New Disability Books" are gone. Two book covers now occupy that space. "Year of the Tiger: An Activist's Life" by Alice Wong is to the left. It is a gold background with a red ink drawing of a tiger with its tail towards the top of the cover, body arced in a slash so its head is leans in towards the center. Small, red flowers dot the cover. To the right, "Unshrunk: A Story of Psychiatric Treatment Resistance" by Lauren Delano. A cream cover with the title and author name at the top. The bottom half is occupied by a painting depicting three women in Victorian era clothing. Two fuss over the other, one holding her hand, the other kissing her forehead. The one being fussed over sits in a chair, defiant gaze staring out at the viewer.

ID 1: Pale butter yellow background with illustrated cartoon sun in top right corner, a cloud tucked behind it. Another illustrated cloud is in the top left corner and one runs the width of the bottom of the image. At top, a small, dark red headline reads "Nightlight Books". Below, in a childish font, "New Disability Books". Beneath this, a an illustration of a stack of three books, the top most open, the colors and images decorating them all done in peach and grapefruit shades.

Typically we are pretty picky about memoirs, not because we have anything against them but because they are easily the genre most represented in disability lit. So you know when we've picked up a bundle of them, they are all bangers.
