@thelincoln.bsky.social , in addition to "Tv-brain" writing, I think we should consider "video-game-brain" writing, where the prose is like watching someone steer an avatar around the screen. The current novel I'm reading does this and it's driving me crazy.

It was pretty asinine the first time, but there's not even anything new to talk about. Just another "kids these days" tweet that isn't inspired by a specific event, followed by "remember that time three years ago someone said something stupid about ableism and writing?"

The "should writers read?" discourse feels artificial this time around, like an excuse to get out that Ana Mardoll tweet from a couple years ago out an smack it around again, like we found an old pinata in the attic.

I don't know how to argue with these people. AI are not humans. Humans are humans. That makes them inherently more valuable. It isn't a waste of resources to use them on humans. Humans are what resources are for.

All the problems with guns don't magically go away because you have a legitimate opponent? There's still the incredibly elevated risk of suicide? You're still more likely to kill a family member than an aggressor? Having a gun in a heated political climate makes these problems worse, not better?

The libraries are like the worst place to take it from. If I remember right, Adams cut library funding to pay for even more NYPD overtime. That seems like a good place to start.

Seriously, stepping into a library is like stepping into a portal to an alternate timeline where government was used to actually help people. I go to my library most days of the week: I check out laptops for the day, use their wifi, and their databases. I obviously also get movies and books.
