Pitt, CMU face 'significant uncertainty' as NIH slashes funding for indirect research costs Statements from the University of Pittsburgh and Carnegie Mellon University suggest internal worries about the impact of slashed federal funding for research overhead costs.

Cuts to NIH funding don't just threaten life-saving research, they also threaten opportunities for students and Pittsburgh’s economy. We must protect the investments that drive innovation and keep our City at the forefront of discovery.

We’ve made meaningful progress through the Inflation Reduction Act and Bipartisan Infrastructure Law, and there is still more work to be done. Pittsburgh will continue to lead on climate action, no matter what happens in Washington.

Pittsburgh City Council passes 2025 budget, amid doubts about staffing costs Pittsburgh City Council is poised to pass a $845 million budget for 2025, despite ongoing concerns that some of its numbers — in particular, its projections for police overtime — are unrealistic.

I'm pleased that my colleagues and I were able to work alongside the Gainey Administration to pass a balanced budget for 2025. We'll continue to keep a close eye on overtime pay and explore new strategies to make sure our Public Safety departments are adequately staffed.
