Be patient! Everyone starts somewhere, and everyone learns at a different pace! If you’re dedicated, resourceful and, most of all, excited to learn, with time you’ll be practising tarot like the pros! What are your best ways to learn?

Practising frequently is the best way to lock in that understanding! Whether it's for yourself or others, the more you use your deck, the easier you’ll find it to draw meanings! Soon, what looks like a simple spread of cards to another, paints an entire story for you!

Need to keep track of your learning? Journaling is an amazing way to revisit your spreads and understand them better! Writing is an amazing memorisation tool, and you’ll be able to see your learning in action each day!

Engage with others! Everyone starts somewhere, and there are so many people also on their tarot journey! Chat to friends, join in on forum discussions, and even leave video comments to find insightful input! You may even make a friend ready to learn with you!

Read! You'll find a treasure trove of books covering tarot at local bookshops, online, and even in thrift stores! Highlighting and marking the important parts ensures you can check back when you're practising your spreads!

Be resourceful! Many creators dedicate their videos and posts to breaking down and explaining the cards in ways easy to understand, from beginners to pros! Throw on a video as you learn and follow their steps! Many video sites and even dedicated websites will have amazing resources to help you!

Want to understand your cards thoroughly? A quick “card of the day” pull can help focus on them one at a time, letting you study it, understand it and memorise! Then, when you see it again in your larger spreads, you’ll remember how it related to that day!

Start by giving each card its own “keyword”! The Ace of Swords? Breakthrough! Nine of Cups? Wish! Simplifying them can help their symbolism stick, paving the way for deeper understanding.

Most decks also come with a handy-dandy booklet (much like ours), that breaks down each card individually! While this might be a bit difficult to study, it CAN be helpful to quickly check the meaning behind a card as you go, ensuring your understanding is accurate!

The first step is choosing a deck (if you haven’t already chosen ours!). While there is a wide range to pick (check our post on finding a perfect deck), for a starter deck, it may be helpful to find one with clear imagery! You can find learner decks with titles and meanings printed on the cards!

We’re so glad you find them helpful! We know one of the barriers is the seemingly steep learning curve, and we hope that we can give future learners the tips they need to open a deck with confidence!

Now we have all these, we can combine them, understanding how each number and court card links to its suit, and apply it to the situation! With a bit of revision, you too can become a tarot master!

Queens show emotional maturity, power and nurturing! Like a queen bee taking care of its workers!
Kings show control, leadership, mastery and authority, like…well, a king!

Then with the court cards, think of them as people!
Pages are our messengers, representing new beginnings, curiosity and opportunities! (Like a new page in a book!)
Knights symbolise action, movement and impulsiveness! Like a knight on the battlefield!

9 show our work growing into something larger than ourselves, nearing completion, so take a moment to pause before we reach the finish line! Like 9/10, near perfect!
10 shows the end of the cycle, the finish line! Our final number, take some rest before moving forward! Take 10!

8 indicates positive change, systems are established and were ready to move towards success! Work isn’t finished, but advancement is close with the effort! Like an infinity symbol, your potential is endless!

7 shows control, applying what we’ve learnt and gaining lessons from hardship! Think “lucky 7”, and remember there’s nothing lucky about how far you’ve come!

5 may show instability, like a star about to burn out! The early structure may be unstable, there may be conflict and change, and struggle is necessary to build!
6 shows balance, like a honeycomb! Structure must be realigned, bridges must be built, and struggles must be let go to move forward!

4 sets the foundation, think of a chair with 4 legs! A strong base to build on, stability and manifestation, it can indicate the necessity of a rest before continuing!

3 comes after 2, with what can come from that union! Development, creativity, growth, it can represent the realisation that we need help to grow, collaborate and progress!
