When she speaks to grief and teaches pain how to loosen its teeth, they call it dangerous. But when a man does the same touches foreheads, turns water into holy intoxication, tells the suffering to rise suddenly the room fills with pews. Suddenly the story is sacred, inked in gold, repeated for centuries until doubt itself becomes sin. Her power is a trial. His power is a gospel. She is tied to a stake to prove she is not the fire. He stands in it, and they build a cathedral.
