First Boston regional ATProto meetup โ

๐ Breaking free from Big Tech's grip on communities. Open source, AT protocol, forever free alternative to Meetup & FB Groups. Own your gatherings. #OpenSource #atproto #meetup Create an event or community for free now https://platform.openmeet.net
We want to meet folks where they are at, and are open to suggestions.
#ATprotocol users can use PDS storage for public events or our storage for private events. Other forms of login keep the data internally.
Groups aren't hooked into ATproto yet, just the event posting. RSVPs are 50% complete.
Thanks for the input. How important is this for you? Is it a common use case?
If you don't provide an email at login, then we'd prompt for one. I just need to go figure out how to do opt-in or out for oauth scopes.
Might take me a couple of weeks to get to it unless you tell me it's urgent.
I recently moved away from having folks enter an email address and started pulling email to save a step on entry.
Would having a primary/secondary email fulfill your needs, or is it important to not use your bsky email?
Just released a new feature for social link sharing from OpenMeet groups and events. If you're interested in an opensource Meetup.com alternative that integrates with #ATprotocol find us at platform.openmeet.net/groups/openm...
09.11.2025 13:06 โ ๐ 18 ๐ 8 ๐ฌ 3 ๐ 0What a fun idea. I saw it pop up in my feed at platform.openmeet.net/events/count....
I noticed KY was the address, and I'm from here and love the back roads. Keep us posted on the next one.
option A, 3 obvious sections, no notes
option B, 3 sections, with notes
I'm making a quick register/login flow when you just want to RSVP for an event.
Which looks better? What else would you change?
I made an activity feed kind of thing so you can tell what's going on with groups and events. Come try it out at platform.openmeet.net
22.10.2025 20:01 โ ๐ 0 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 0 ๐ 0Thanks. I've had my head in the weeds for a bit and hadn't seen that.
14.10.2025 13:58 โ ๐ 1 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 0 ๐ 0Who is working on e2ee data in ATproto now? I've got a user wanting private events, but also have them published to bsky.
Is it possible yet, or where can I find progress?
Been under a rock for a bit. ๐ Pushed a big update to platform.openmeet.net
* share media and files
* e2e encryption for private rooms (experimental)
* connect 3rd party Matrix chat apps to chat live and on the go
* better moderation
Let me know what you think, and bugs as you hit them, Thanks!

New update just shipped with better mobile experience, maps, improved multi-day event display in the calendar, and more.
If you're organizing a protest, this gives you a way to share dates, locations, and details by QR code or URL.
Do you use Meetup as a host? What are you paying these days?

05.06.2025 14:05 โ ๐ 0 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 0 ๐ 0Export your #bluesky or #ATproto events, or import your #Google, #Apple, or other calendar: www.loom.com/share/a30931...
04.06.2025 18:26 โ ๐ 2 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 0 ๐ 0Exciting news! Weโve just launched new calendaring integrations on platform.OpenMeet.net. You can now export events from your OpenMeet calendar or group calendar, and seamlessly connect external calendars like Google, Apple, and other iCal sources to display them directly in your OpenMeet calendar.
04.06.2025 18:10 โ ๐ 6 ๐ 2 ๐ฌ 0 ๐ 0Have a motorcycle (or other) club that's trying to get everyone to the same places on multi-day rides? You wouldn't be the first, try using platform.openmeet.net
30.05.2025 15:41 โ ๐ 1 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 0 ๐ 0Try it out, and do you want to see more info when initially landing on the group, but not logged in? I've got other users that want that information hidden from the world. I'd like to find a way to work for both cases. What would you like to share about your private group with the world?
29.05.2025 19:24 โ ๐ 0 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 1 ๐ 0I got time and just pushed an update that makes this workflow a little more smooth.
Should be more obvious there is a group but you can't see it until after login/registration. After logging in, then we take you back to the same page, where you can now see basic info.
Basic email communication is out now! We've kept it minimal and want to hear your feedback on what to improve first. Join the OpenMeet Guides Group at platform.openmeet.net/groups/openm... and let us know any issues or your feature requests.
28.05.2025 21:08 โ ๐ 3 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 0 ๐ 0Congrats on the growth of your community!
I'm building a meetup replacement since their fees can be too high for many groups. Would an opensource platform with lower or no fees be an option for your group? Are there meetup specific features you can't live without?
Thanks for the feedback. I'll add it to my plans for ASAP. For now, private groups require users to have an account to see the group at all.
27.05.2025 15:42 โ ๐ 1 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 1 ๐ 0In the new browser, you have to sign in before you can join private groups. Would you like it to be different? I could change that behavior if it doesn't make sense.
26.05.2025 21:41 โ ๐ 0 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 1 ๐ 0If you set "require approval", then guests enter a waiting list until you mark them as a member from the members page .
26.05.2025 19:41 โ ๐ 0 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 0 ๐ 0You can cut and paste the URL to them. There is a "share" button, but it amounts to the same thing. When they arrive on the page, use "join group".
26.05.2025 19:39 โ ๐ 0 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 1 ๐ 0I missed recognizing that platform.openmeet.net surpassed 100 users, so here's a late "Yippee!" About 25% of those are Bluesky users. Thanks, you all!
If you have a group that is paying for meetup.com, consider trying OpenMeet.
