if you squint you can sort of see a similar phenomenon in Toronto with the 1967-1998 pre-amalgamation boundaries, which I'm not brushed up on my Toronto history but might assume were the parts of Toronto heavily planned and developed before the 1950s?

and yes, Strava can be biased toward more wealthy audiences who have leisure time to run: which makes point grey even more interesting given its demographics.

Not an original thought, but was looking at the Strava walk/run heat map and its always funny when you still see the 1911 City of Vancouver boundaries somewhat. Really shows that the parts of the city developed in the '20s-50s dropped off in density and walkability. Map via Strava, crude lines by me

further reflection, for their specific scenario: kingsway between Nanaimo and King Edward has 2 major bus routes, including the regions 5th busiest. this parking spot should be a red painted bus lane the entire way anyway. There's ample parking around in the lot 1 block up and side streets.

Buses need automated enforcement cameras: this 19 Kingsway bus honked at this guy, just sitting in his car idling, and he not only refuses to move, he started to back up and then stopped. he ended up delaying a bunch of ppl instead of parking a few metres away, because it couldn't get out quickly

A thing not often mentioned here is one of the things OpenAI is trying to take away is community. Having experts beyond yourself — and professionals and friends and family and and and — means interacting with them, enforcing community. POPs (privately owned, publicly accessible spaces), much like inclusionary zoning, are a well-intentioned idea in theory that consistently don't deliver, because some things are public goods to the point they can only be delivered at scale by governments.

Horrible decision. Will result in less ridership, lower revenues, more driving and worse vehicle congestion (with all the corresponding costs and consequences). Either they don’t understand that, or they’re ok with all that.

We are losing the Corporation for Public Broadcasting, which has helped educate, inform, and entertain millions of Americans.

Instead, we’re getting a vulgar new gold ballroom, which none of us will ever see.
